The policies cover the following areas:
- Timely completion
- Grading
- Plagiarism and other academic misconduct
- Withdrawals
Timely completion of courses: Given that each of the main courses is conducted within a period of ten cosequtive weeks,
it is important that you accomodate to have that period of time available to you. While the nature of the class is such that you may
log on and participate at your own times during a 24 hour day, there are limits and deadlines within which you need to operate. For
example, a homework assignment may be given a 5 day period to be completed: this deadline should be adhered to by each student.
Certain extensions may be granted by your online intrsuctor but only to a limited extent.
In particular, the course instructor may allow you an extension to the deadline of a course
activity (e.g., homework, discussion posting) only once during a term (i.e.,
the 10-week period of a course) and for no more than one week. In extreme circumstances
(e.g., illness) the instructor may allow you to be exempted for up to a week. Beyond that
you will have to expect a Fail grade for any missed or late work.
Grading: The grade scale used in each course
is as follows:
| Grade |
Percentage |
| A |
90-100 |
| B |
80-89 |
| C |
70-79 |
| C- |
65-60 |
| F |
0-64 |
All courses must
be passed with a grade of A, B, or C wth the
exception that a student is allowed to pass one
of the eight courses with a grade of C-. If a
student receives a grade below C in a second
course, he/she will be terminated from the program.
A student who receives a grade of F must retake
the course; the grade received the second time
will replace the F and be the student's grade for
that course. If the student receives an F a
second time, he/she will be terminated from the
program. A student who receives a C- may choose
to retake the course or keep the grade keeping in
mind that he/she is not allowed another C- after
that.
Plagiarism and other academic misconduct: Plagiarism and related misconduct, such as unauthorized collaboration with others in
preparing materials that are to be presented in courses for evaluation, is not allowed under any circumstances.
Plagiarism is the use of someone else's work as if it were your own. You have to
acknowledge anything you use - textual (e.g., phrases), visual (e.g., images), or other
materials - that is not yours, by providing the source. Proper citation and referencing
rules will be provided in class.
A student who is caught plagiarising will be given a Fail grade for that particular
course component and a warning. If repeated a second time, s/he will Fail the course.
A student who continues to plagiarise in more than one courses will be terminated
from the program.
Proper behavior is expected in all areas of the class and in communicating among students, faculty, and other staff.
Withdrawal from courses: The following structure will be used, if, for any reason, you decide to withdraw from a course:
- you can withdraw during the first week of classes and receive a 90% refund
- you can withdraw during the second week of classes and receive an 80% refund
- you can withdraw during the third week of classes and receive a 70% refund
- you can withdraw during the fourth week of classes and receive a 60% refund
- you can withdraw during the fifth week of classes and receive a 50% refund
- beyond the fifth week you cannot withdraw from a course.
If you withdraw during the first five weeks, no grade will be recorded on your transcript.
